My Rating:

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes an electrifying new spin-off series,Saints of Denver, featuring all the characters fans have been dying to read about. Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk, he’s all denim and flannel. Zeb’s wanted the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her. It doesn't matter how many smooth moves he makes, the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest—either that or she doesn't return it. Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior. But just as things start to heat up, Zeb is blindsided by a life altering moment from his past. He needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. He can’t risk what’s at stake just because his attraction to Sayer feels all consuming. But as these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, battling together to save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide can no longer be ignored.

Waiting On Wednesday #35

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

One more day of 2015. Crazy! It's been a strange year but here's to hoping that next year brings us all better and healthier times.

Title: Away We Go
Author: Emil Ostrovski
Release Date: February 2, 2016

KIRKUS - "Intellectual boys' boarding school story meets near-future dystopia in this end-times tale...the imminent apocalypse serves primarily to accelerate the claustrophobic immediacy of boarding school angst. Noah and his friends form loving, believably complex relationships, caroming from suicidal ideation to conspiracy theory to a quest for the sacred in mundane death. Lovers of self-consciously witty nihilist profundities will be thrilled..."

Westing is not your typical school. For starters, you have to have one very important quality in order to be admitted—you have to be dying. Every student at Westing has been diagnosed with PPV, or the Peter Pan Virus. No one is expected to live to graduation.
What do you do when you go to a school where no one has a future? Noah Falls, his girlfriend Alice, and his best friend Marty spend their time drinking, making out, and playing video games on awaywego.com. But when an older boy named Zach (who Noah may or may not be in love with) invites Noah and Marty to join his secret Polo Club, the lives of both boys change as they struggle to find meaning in their shortened existence.
With an innovative format that includes interstitial documents, such as flyers, postcards, and handwritten notes, Away We Go is a funny, honest look at first love and tragic heartbreak. For fans of Grasshopper Jungle and Noggin.
The boarding school and the virus part drew me in. This seems like a new take on the whole dystopian and romantic storyline. It seems tragic and interesting.

Waiting On Wednesday #34

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The holiday season is rushing and sooner or later we'll be in the new year! Feels unreal to be honest. But the sooner the new year, the sooner the release of these WoW's are.

Title: Arrows
Author: Melissa Gorzelanczyk
Release Date: January 26, 2016

A modern cupid story set in present-day Wisconsin combining the fantastical elements of Greek mythology with the contemporary drama of MTV's Teen Mom.
People don’t understand love. If they did, they’d get why dance prodigy Karma Clark just can’t say goodbye to her boyfriend, Danny. No matter what he says or does or how he hurts her, she can’t stay angry with him . . . and can’t stop loving him. But there’s a reason why Karma is helpless to break things off: she’s been shot with a love arrow.
Aaryn, son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot both Karma andDanny but found out too late that the other arrow in his pack was useless. And with that, Karma’s life changed forever. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. And dream after dream tossed to the wind.
A clueless Karma doesn’t know that her toxic relationship is Aaryn’s fault . . . but he’s going to get a chance to make things right. He’s here to convince Danny to man up and be there for Karma. But what if this god from Mount Olympus finds himself falling in love with a beautiful dancer from Wisconsin who can never love him in return?
This fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn't reciprocate her feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny--perfect for fans of Katie McGarry's novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.
The combination of Greek mythology and MTV had me interested. I'm not necessarily a fan of Teen Mom but this looks really interesting. Kind of reminds me of the movie Saved in a weird way. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.

Guest Book Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Author: Seth Grahame-Smith
Publication Date: May 1, 2009
Published: Quirk Classics
Reviewer: Rebecca

My Rating:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.”
So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you’d actually want to read.

My Rating:

One shy lost soul.
One silent lonely heart.
One love to save them both.
Life has never been easy for twenty-year-old Levi Carillo. The youngest of the Carillo boys, Levi is nothing like his older brothers. He isn’t dark in looks or intimidating to everyone he meets. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. Too timid to talk to girls, Levi stays as far away as possible and completely on his own… until he saves the life of a troubled pretty blonde, a troubled pretty blonde that might just be the exception to his rule.
Elsie Hall is homeless. Or at least that’s all anyone ever sees. Everyday is a fight for survival on the cold streets of Seattle, everyday a struggle to find food and keep warm. In her world of silence, Elsie has given up hope that her life will contain anything but constant struggle and pain… until the beautiful boy she has severely wronged comes to her rescue at precisely the right time.
New Adult novel—contains sexual situations and mature topics. Suited for ages 18 and up.

My Rating:
Alex Dawn is saying no to men. No to bad relationships, disappointments, and smooth-talkers. Focusing on her family and her job at Payton and Sons Automotive keeps her mind occupied and her heart content. She doesn’t really miss a man’s touch, until one night, a man shows up with the body of a god and a voice from her dirtiest dreams.
L.M. Spencer is only in Tory, Maryland, to scope out the town as a possible site for one of his company's hotels. The British businessman didn’t expect his car to break down or to find the hottest little American he’s ever seen holding a tire iron, piercing him with bright blue eyes.

Waiting On Wednesday #33

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Looks like the hits keep coming! Or at least I hope they'll be hits when they come out.

Title: Firsts
Author: Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
Release Date: January 2, 2016

Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.
Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.
When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process. Funny, smart, and true-to-life, FIRSTS is a one-of-a-kind young adult novel about growing up.
This feels like it's going to be such a twist on what we already think. For her to only want to hook up with guy virgins? That feels rare in the YA world. Or any world. I can't wait for this to hurry and release.

Top Ten Tuesday! New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish

This year there were so many new-to-me authors for me. All of them are now favorites of mine and will be added to my must-buy list. I have more than 10 that I could list but I'll narrow it down as much as possible.

  • Abbi GlinesBook that got me hooked: Fallen Too Far
I know a lot of people love her, and when I started the Rosemary Beach series, I got it. Though I haven't finished the series, the plans are there to continue.
  • Tijan - Book that got me hooked: Sustain
Before reading Sustain, I was a bit wary about reading a Tijan book. My friend was obsessed and I wasn't sure that it was the right fit for me. Boy was I wrong. She's good. Really good.
  • Kylie Scott - Book that got me hooked: Lick
This series owns a piece of my heart. Lick was funny and sexy and Kylie knows how to make you care about rockers and shows you a different side. I can't wait for the spin off series.
  • Elle Kennedy - Book that got me hooked: The Deal
I think my reviews of her books I've done shows exactly what I think of Elle.
  • Sabrina Bowen - Book that got me hooked: Him
Once I read her writing with Elle, I had to see what the fuss about her other series, The Ivy Years. I am now obsessed with Hockey. So thanks.
  • R.S. Grey - Book that got me hooked: The Duet
This was cute in the best way and made me fall in love with R.S. All of her books have this endearing quality that makes you want to just wrap yourself up in them.
  • Whitney G. - Book that got me hooked: Sincerely, Carter
More often than not, a cover draws me to a book. With this one, the cover hooked me and then the story reeled me in. Whitney is really good at romance and an actual sweet person!
  • Jay McLean Book that got me hooked: Kick, Push
It had been a while since a book outright had me sobbing. Even though I've only read this one, I know Jay is really good at touching all the soft places inside you. Can't wait for the sequel.
  • Penny Reid - Book that got me hooked: Truth or Beard
Probably the funniest writer I've encountered since Alice Clayton. Every time I pick up a new book, I know Penny has my back and is going to make me laugh then swoon.
  • Jana Aston - Book that got me hooked:  Wrong
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one but Jana came from left field with the dirty yet tastefulness. I loved Wrong and I hope there is a follow up.

Waiting On Wednesday #32

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and ready for the up coming ones. Let's get on with the waiting, shall we?

Title: This Raging Light
Author: Estelle Laure
Release Date: December 22, 2015

Can the best thing happen at the worst time?
Her dad went crazy. Her mom left town. She has bills to pay and a little sister to look after. Now is not the time for level-headed seventeen-year-old Lucille to fall in love. But love—messy, inconvenient love—is what she's about to experience when she falls for Digby Jones, her best friend's brother. With blazing longing that builds to a fever pitch, Estelle Laure's soulful debut will keep readers hooked and hoping until the very last page.
I think what got me originally with this book was that it shows a girl who has to grow up faster than she should have. Stories like that get me. Plus, blazing longing sounds pretty interesting.
