Top Ten Tuesday! Books We've Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. We are halfway through the year and we are going to list some of the top reads we've had so far.

  • Landline by Rainbow Rowell - Being a Rainbow fangirl is a hard life because you are constantly trying to figure out which book of hers is your favorite. Before reading Landline I would have said Eleanor & Park was hands down the best. But after reading this book, I'm left torn because Landline was such a creative and entertaining read. This book shows what she does best, heartfelt wrapped in a humor blanket.
  • Remember When by T. Torrest - This wasn't my only romantic series that I've read this year. It is however the one that made me the most nostalgic. Something about this book and its sequels pulls at your heartstrings. It takes what is best of 80s and 90s romantic movies and gets you invested.
  • Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren - This was one of the first reads of the year and it shaped the reading habits that followed. This was sexy, fresh and funny. After reading this and its sequels, I've been bitten by the romance bug ever since.
  • Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry - I've read some racy YA and some tame NA, but there hasn't been a book for me that straddled that line so well as this book and the ones that follow. The plot was good and the chemistry flew off the pages. Yes, I had some issues with it but I am glad that I took the chance and read this.
  • Angelfall by Susan Ee - Before reading this book I was basically done with dystopians and fantasy. The was one of the lender books from Kindle and the moment I got into it, it breathed a new life into the genre for me. Evil angels fallen on earth hellbent to destroy it? Totally different for me. It scared and excited me to the point I was having dreams about it! This was seriously a surprise for me and I can't wait to read the third installment.

  • Me Before You by Jojo Moyes - Thought provoking and heartbreaking; Me Before You is not a romance, nor is it romantic as it is marketed. However, it is a love story, that envoked emotions I hadn't felt in a long while.
  • The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton - I've talked about this, and the next three books, before. this particular book has been my favorite so far this year and it would take a lot to change that. It's so beautifully dark and mystical.
  • Beatless by Amber L. Johnson - Sometime at the beginning of this year I told a mutual friend of Nikki and me, Sana, over at Step Into Fiction, that I thought all NA was starting to sound the same. I wanted a new formula, an author to come along and break the mold. Amber L. Johnson, while I didn't know at the time, is an author I had read before, and she's also an NA author who unknowingly fulfilled my request. Beatless has plot, heart, heartbreak, nuance, love, development, everything I could have asked for, and not too much of any one thing.
  • Splintered by A.G. Howard - If you are a fan of Alice in Wonderland this little book will make you oh-so happy. It's a continuation of sorts. A dark tale of what came decades later. Even if you've never read Alice, or never particularly liked her, Alyssa's story is one with trying.
  • Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren - Fun, sexy, engaging. Sometimes you need a book to get lost in, and nothing too heavy. For me this was that book. Not to mention, the male MC went to Vandy. Go Commodores! I'm thrilled Nikki suggested it, and hope you all will come back next week to check out our discussion on Sweet Filthy Boy.
Until Next Time!
