In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

As much as I love Rapunzel, I’m not a big fan of Cress. Cress, is a sci-fi spin on the classic fairytale Rapunzel, and although the heart of the story is still there, the novel in general, wasn’t the best. It started off really slow, and then everything happened so fast, and then it was over and the rest of the novel was really slow, and then it slowly picked up again.

The pacing, was all over the place, but the characters were great. Cinder, and my favorite Scarlet returned as a team in this novel, along with Wolf and Captain Throne, but unfortunately they got separated in the big up roar that happened and there was less of Scarlet and more Cinder and Cress. The Cress chapters were okay, I enjoyed the chemistry and building relationship between her and Captain Throne, but even their relationship happened extremely fast. The relationship between Cinder and Prince Kai is still really complicated and confusing, and barely a relationship at all, but Cinder’s determination to help him is what keeps those two connected and keeps Cinder going strong.

What I did enjoy most about this novel, is the new take on Rapunzel. I love Cress, I think she’s a great new kind of Rapunzel. She has a lot of innocence and that’s the main quality in her that shines throughout the whole novel. I hope in the next book, she grows more as a character and breaks out of her shell a bit more. I love this series and I can’t wait to see what happens next! I give this book 3.5/5 stars!
