Sunday Post #4

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Is it just me or is summer zooming by? As I pulled my laptop into my lap to write this post, I looked up at the calendar and thought, Is it really Sunday already? AGAIN? Maybe it's the heat causing all the days to run together, or maybe the laxness of summer. Either way, I'm clinging to the season as hard as I can. During the school year it never seems we have enough downtime, and I have enjoyed the extra time spent with my daughter during her summer vacation. Though she will only be entering first grade this year her and I have many common likes, reading being one of them. A few weeks ago we got her recommended reading list for the year. There were fifteen books on it. She has read through nine, spouting out words I had no idea she could even pronounce, let alone read. I'm going to miss looking over and seeing her reading to her little brother or even the sound of their squabbles. Luckily we have a two week vacation coming up soon to finish out her first summer vaca with a bang.

Speaking of vacations, Nikki has once again left me to go gallivanting with the stars. Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but she is currently at the The Vampire Diaries convention, no doubt drooling over our favorite TV wolf, Michael Trevino. Not to mention... Ian Somerhalder? Enough said. That's not the only exciting thing she's done this week. She attended the launch party for Landline, and once again got to see Rainbow Rowell. No doubt she'll be doing a write up about their meeting soon and I cannot wait to read it. I live vicariously through her, you see.

I'm thinking maybe we should rename this post "Sunday Ramblings" since that seems to be my niche. Anyway, here's what we had going on on the blog this week and what you can look forward to for the week ahead.

Monday, July 7th -

On a hot summer night in a Midwestern town, a high school teenage prank goes horrifically awry. Alcohol, guns, and a dare. Within minutes, as events collide, innocents becomes victims—with tragic outcomes altering lives forever, a grisly and unfortunate scenario all too familiar from current real-life headlines. But victims can also become survivors, and as we come to know each character through his/her own distinctive voice and their interactions with one another, we see how, despite pain and guilt, they can reach out to one another, find a new equilibrium, and survive.
Told through multiple points of view in naturalistic free verse and stream of consciousness, this is an unforgettable, haunting tale.

Tuesday, July 8th -

Reign is convinced that Nate is the perfect guy for her. That’s until Micah walks into her Mom’s restaurant looking for a job. Now Reign can’t seem to stop her heart from yearning for the guy with the mysterious sea blue eyes and melting smile.
Micah is all but perfect. He’s spent eight months in a juvenile detention center back in Colorado for his unintentional involvement in a crime. Now at nineteen and hoping to escape his ghosts, he lands a part-time job working at a seaside restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island where he meets the irresistible Reign.
He can’t help the way he feels whenever he’s around her, but she’s already taken and Micah doesn't want to disrupt her life or get himself in anymore trouble. But then his attraction for Reign proves too strong to deny, and Micah finds that he just might discover a reason to stop running.

Wednesday, July 9th -

In a world where everyone is gifted, be it in dancing, lightning-bringing, or death-giving, Ever is born…all-powerful.
For this gift, she is kidnapped and trafficked at birth. Fifteen years later, Ever still hasn’t seen even a glimmer of her powerful gift. Locked in an abandoned mall in New York City, she’s fighting to survive her captivity, her brutal guards, and the other gifted kids in her cell. She would do anything to escape.
Fox is gifted with time manipulation. Like Ever, he hasn’t come into his gift yet; like Ever, he hates the mall; and like Ever, he longs to be free. But there’s one thing he values above his freedom—it’s Ever’s love…
…yet, when the two make a desperate attempt to escape, this attempt proves so dark and twisted that it just might destroy Ever’s love for Fox.

Thursday, July 10th -

Shadowhunters and demons square off for the final showdown in the spellbinding, seductive conclusion to the #1 New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.
Darkness has descended on the Shadowhunter world. Chaos and destruction overwhelm the Nephilim as Clary, Jace, Simon, and their friends band together to fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother. Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell. Nothing in this world can defeat Sebastian, but if they journey to the realm of demons, they just might have a chance.
Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world will change. Who will survive the explosive sixth and final installment of the Mortal Instruments series?
