Waiting on Wednesday #5

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Happy Hump Day! Hope this week is going fine for you all. It's a waiting game till the weekend, right? Speaking of waiting, here is what we are waiting for this week!

Title: Rites of Passage
Author: Joy N. Hensley
Release Date: September 9, 2014

Sam McKenna’s never turned down a dare. And she's not going to start with the last one her brother gave her before he died.
So Sam joins the first-ever class of girls at the prestigious Denmark Military Academy. She’s expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud-crawling. As a military brat, she can handle an obstacle course just as well as the boys. She's even expecting the hostility she gets from some of the cadets who don’t think girls belong there. What she’s not expecting is her fiery attraction to her drill sergeant. But dating is strictly forbidden and Sam won't risk her future, or the dare, on something so petty...no matter how much she wants him.
As Sam struggles to prove herself, she discovers that some of the boys don’t just want her gone—they will stop at nothing to drive her out. When their petty threats turn to brutal hazing, bleeding into every corner of her life, she realizes they are not acting alone. A decades-old secret society is alive and active… and determined to force her out.
At any cost.
Now time's running short. Sam must decide who she can trust...and choosing the wrong person could have deadly consequences.
This is a recent find and wait for me. I came across this one on goodreads and the moment I read the synopsis, I was sold. It seems to have a G.I. Jane feel to it and this is something I am totally down for. The military aspect is a real draw for me since I'm really into movies of the same genre. And who doesn't love a underdog story? This hits all points for me. And now September seems so far away.

Title: Love, Lucy
Author: April Lindner
Release Date: January 27, 2015

While backpacking through Florence, Italy, during the summer before she heads off to college, 17-year-old Lucy Sommersworth finds herself falling in love with the culture, the architecture, the food...and Jesse Palladino, a handsome street musician. After a whirlwind romance, Lucy returns home, determined to move on from her "vacation flirtation." But just because summer is over doesn't mean Lucy and Jesse are over, too.
Inspired by E.M. Forster's A Room with a View.
In the last four months I have read more books about travel than I can remember reading in my life's time. I never saw the appeal until... I guess I just did, and now I can't get enough of books with settings in so many of the places I hope to visit. Love, Lucy takes place - at least in part - in Italy. I can't wait to read this authors description of Florence, and see Lucy's love story unfold.

Until Next Time!

  9. Ooh, great picks, both of these! I'd not read what Rites of Passage was about before but it sounds so good! I had to go get myself a copy off Edelweiss. :) And I love the idea of a modern A Room With a View! I love that book! :D
