Sunday Post #2

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

What a week! It feels like I was just telling you all what was to come for the week, and here I am wrapping it up. I guess what they say is true, time flies when you're having fun. My trip to Nashville has been AH-MAZ-ING. For the first time in three years I got to sleep in my childhood home, in the comfort of my bedroom; it was magnificent. Unfortunately, today is my last day here, but it's already been decided that my kids and I will be returning for another two weeks, once summer camps come to an end. My husband is either having the time of his life or really understanding, I can't decide which.

Nikki hopefully learned that the world wouldn't fall apart if I went on vacation, since there isn't a day that went by when we didn't talk anyway. Besides, she went parading and to see Transformers, which she loved despite all the bad buzz around the interwebs.

The downside to vacation? Not being able to read, both books and posts, as much as I would like. I'm sure Nikki can empathize, as she told me earlier in the week that she wasn't able to get through a single book. (She did, for the record.) Anyhoo, I'm realize I'm rambling, so on with it I go. Hope you all have a great week!

Book Review: Flat Out Celeste by Jessica Park
Whether you were charmed by Celeste in Flat-Out Love or are meeting her for the first time, this book is a joyous celebration of differences, about battling private wars that rage in our heads and in our hearts, and—very much so— this is a story about first love. For high-school senior Celeste Watkins, every day is a brutal test of bravery. And Celeste is scared. Alienated because she’s too smart, her speech too affected, her social skills too far outside the norm, she seems to have no choice but to retreat into isolation. But college could set her free, right? If she can make it through this grueling senior year, then maybe. If she can just find that one person to throw her a lifeline, then maybe, just maybe.Justin Milano, a college sophomore with his own set of quirks, could be that person to pull her from a world of solitude. To rescue her—that is, if she’ll let him.Together, they may work. Together, they may save each other. And together they may also save another couple—two people Celeste knows are absolutely, positively flat-out in love.

He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop to that. What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

Book Review: Between The Lives by Jessica Shirvington
The perfect life or the perfect love. You choose. For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she shifts to her 'other' life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she's a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she's considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other. With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments that bring her dangerously close to the life she's always wanted. But if she can only have one life, which is the one she'll choose?A compelling psychological thriller about a girl who lives two parallel lives - this is Sliding Doors for the YA audience.

  1. I haven't been to Nashville in far too long which is kind of embarrassing since i't an easy day trip for me! Glad you had a good time. I hate those weeks when I don't feel like I'm not getting much reading done! Have a great week!

  2. Thanks, Katherine! I can't wait to get back here. It's been a great trip. I AM looking forward to getting home and back into the groove of things though. Pretty sure book withdrawal is a real thing. :)

LOL) :) I'm reading Lauren Layne's Only With You and I can't wait to read your review on that. And I'm off to read your review of Me Before You. Gosh, that book.. :) Thanks for dropping by my Sunday Post :)

  4. I go back to my childhood home once a year with my children, and even though they are teenagers and grown ups now, they still enjoy it.

Between the Lives sounds like a very interesting concept, it depends I suppose what the author was able to do with the concept.

  6. Me Before You was crushing! It's in my top 3 for the year thus far. It wasn't at all what I was expecting.

Yes, definitely. Feature as many as you like. I'm struggling with picking a favorite, so there will probably be more than one for me, too. :)

  7. I think we will make it a summer tradition. The kids had so much fun, and I love it there.

Between the Lives surprised me. I really loved it. It was one of those stories that elicits multiple emotions, all unpredictable.

Thanks for stopping by, Peggy! Have a great week!
