Moments.
Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.
I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.
I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.
This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.
Of moments.

“The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist.”
Isn’t that devastatingly beautiful? That quote is the one I’m sure going to take with me from this beautiful new book by Brittiany. There was just something about this story and these characters that I just couldn’t stop reading once I started. I even read it while I watched the Emmy’s! And anyone who knows me, knows I take my award shows very seriously. That is how captivating this was.
What we have here is a story about how one event can change a person. Sometimes it doesn’t look like it is for the best and others, you have to look beneath the surface to find the true strength. This tells a story about love, trust, differentness, tragedy and hope.
The Silent Waters is about the layers of Maggie Riley and Brooks Griffin’s relationship to one another. What started off as childhood crush and morphed into a friendship that has the most solid foundation I’ve ever seen, to a love that on the outside seems impossible but to them, makes all the sense in the world.
There aren’t enough good things I could say about this. Where I thought that Maggie would have been annoying given the things that she went through, she wasn’t. Brooks seemed perfect. Sometimes too perfect. But just when I was about to say no thank you, something changed and made him a little fallible. Which is what is amazing about the best book boyfriends.
Even though the story centered about Maggie and Brooks, the side characters weren’t two dimensional. Maggie’s parents and her step siblings were completely flushed out and made me care about their personal outcomes. Their neighbor Mrs. Boone pulled at my heartstrings and made me laugh.
Some parts made me think “Hmm, that’s a bit much.” But overall, my heart goes out to this book.
