There are always stories of the ones that get away or the high school sweethearts who somehow don’t make it past graduation. Then there are the stories of a woman scorned and the things she would do to get back at the one who burned her. Put those two together, pour some sexual tension all over it like a stack of pancakes from iHOP and you get Where You Are by Alla Kar.
Let’s talk about the main players here. First there is Aiden, your sauve jerk who is the target of revenge from Bethany, our woman scorned. Bethany recruits Laney, our conersaure of men who has a secret, to do her bidding against Aiden. Then there is Lachlan, hot Australian from Laney’s past and who has an obsession with her ass.
What made this an enjoyable read were a few things. First there was the scheme to break Aiden’s heart as revenge. It reminded me of the movie John Tucker Must Die. If you haven’t seen that, then you should! Anyway, the concept was very similar but when things aren’t as they seem, it gives Aiden, who on paper should be a very shallow character, some depth. When he started to fall for Laney I couldn’t stop laughing at how hard he fell for her because it was the same way women would fawn over him. It was all about giving him a taste of his own medicine.
Now for the sexual tension and the real heart of the story; Laney and Lachlan. You could call it the story about the one that got away or the story about how this guy has serious boundary issues. Their love story was both tragic and hopeful. I spent most of the time wishing for them to get their heads out of their asses and just be together. But as you will find out, guilt is a real thing and could mess you up for a long time after.
This turned out to be a story that could have been completely smutty and fluffy but it had a little gut to it that I appreciated.
