Sunday Post #12

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

The last week made me feel like a kid again. This morning I woke with a smile on my face, but with a hint of mournfulness for the week we're leaving behind. Wednesday my sister and I took the kids to see Frozen on Ice, which we all loved. Yesterday, I skated for the first time since high school. Last night, I found myself questioning when I stopped wanting to participate in the fun things I loved as a kid. There isn't one particular stopping point that I can put on the time frame of life, but thinking about the things I've considered "fun" as an adult make me a bit remorseful for leaving so many aspects of the past behind. Not that adult fun isn't spectacular, but it's refreshing to take a jog, or rather glide, down memory lane on occasion.

How I felt

How I probably looked

Nikki didn't give me a list! She have me an entire paragraph... lol. Cheeky girl. Here's what she's been up to:

"Busy week! It might be just me, but I feel that if I don’t have things written down that I will have no clue of anything. First week of school was an eye opener of how busy I’m going to be this semester even with just two classes. I’m a little scared how I’m going to handle school, work and the little social life that I have. I’ve done it before, but lets hope I don’t become burned out like last time. On a fun note, this weekend I got to see a bunch of the new shows premiering this fall during PaleyFest NYC. Last weekend I had a marathon of reading and this weekend I have made up with my first love, TV. Also, I FINALLY saw Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a spur of the moment thing and I am glad I went. Great acting, writing and visual. The soundtrack was so boss! This coming week I will be seeing Maze Runner on Monday in RPX and I can’t wait. Hope you all have a great week!"

When Olivia Middleton abandons the glamour of Park Avenue for a remote, coastal town in Maine, everyone assumes she’s being the kind do-gooder she’s always been. But Olivia has a secret: helping an injured war veteran reenter society isn’t about charity—it’s about penance. Only, Olivia’s client isn’t the grateful elderly man she’s expecting. Instead, he’s a brooding twenty-four-year-old who has no intention of being Olivia’s path to redemption . . . and whose smoldering gaze and forbidden touch might be her undoing.
Paul Langdon doesn’t need a mirror to show him he’s no longer the hotshot quarterback he was before the war. He knows he’s ugly—inside and out. He’ll do anything to stay in self-imposed exile, even accept his father’s ultimatum that Paul tolerate the newest caretaker for three months or lose his inheritance. But Paul doesn’t count on the beautiful twenty-two-year-old who makes him long for things that he can never have. And the more she slips past his defenses, the more keeping his distance is impossible.
Now Paul and Olivia have to decide: Will they help each other heal? Or are they forever broken?

After her little sister mysteriously vanishes, seventeen-year-old Claire Graham has a choice to make: stay snug in her little corner of Manhattan with her dropout boyfriend, or go back to Ohio to face the hometown tragedy she's been dying to leave behind.
But the memories of that night still haunt her in the city, and as hard as she tries to forget what her psychiatrist calls her "delusions," Claire can't seem to escape the wolf's eyes or the blood-speckled snow. Delusion or reality, Claire knows she has to hold true to the most important promise she's ever made: to keep Ella safe. She must return to her sleepy hometown in order to find Ella and keep her hallucinations at bay before they strike again. But time is quickly running out, and as Ella's trail grows fainter, the wolves are becoming startlingly real.
Now Claire must deal with her attraction to Grant, the soft-spoken boy from her past that may hold the secret to solving her sister's disappearance, while following the clues that Ella left for only her to find. Through a series of cryptic diary entries, Claire must unlock the keys to Ella's past—and her own—in order to stop another tragedy in the making, while realizing that not all things that are lost are meant to be found.

Readers back for a third round of the bestselling Cocktail series will enjoy a madcap romantic comedy about bodice ripping and chest heaving, fiery passion and love everlasting. Plus a dash of paperwork filing and horseshi—wait, what?
By day, Viv Franklin designs software programs. By night, Vivian’s a secret romance-novel junkie who longs for a knight in shining armor, or a cowboy on a wild stallion, or a strapping firefighter to sweep her off her feet. And she gets to wear the bodice—don’t forget the bodice.
When a phone call brings news that she’s inherited a beautiful old home in Mendocino, California from a long-forgotten aunt, she moves her entire life across the country to embark on what she sees as a great, romance-novel-worthy adventure. But romance novels always have a twist, don’t they?
There’s a cowboy, one that ignites her loins. Because Cowboy Hank is totally loin-ignition worthy. But there’s also a librarian, Clark Barrow. And he calls her Vivian. Can tweed jackets and elbow patches compete with chaps and spurs? You bet your sweet cow pie.
In Screwdrivered, Alice Clayton pits Superman against Clark in a hilarious and hot battle that delights a swooning Viv/Vivian.
Also within this book, an answer to the question of the ages: Why ride a cowboy when you can ride a librarian?

Thirsty Thursday is one of my favorite features, and not just because we host it. It brings a different view to the blog. One where we don't censor ourselves quite so much and let loose. If you haven't checked it out you can see a list of our upcoming topics here. This week's topic is: Steamiest (Almost) Kiss.

Last week was supposed to be our Book of the Month discussion for Maze Runner, but unfortunately life caught up with us and we didn't get it done.Since neither of us could get into the book, a trailer discussion was supposed to happen, but eh. I think it was just the wrong time to try and read/talk about it. Luckily Nikki's friend Marc loved the book and we were able to feature it a bit. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to revisit it. I refuse to see the movie before I finish.

Also, don't forget the Race to 150 Giveaway is underway!

Have a great week!

  1. Frozen on Ice?! I want to see Frozen on Ice!! I'll admit that I did a hard sell on my 4 year old to get him to want to watch Frozen because I really wanted to see it. And I may have listened to Let It Go a few times on my own. Have a great week!
