Waiting On Wednesday #14

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Author: Jessica Martinez
Release Date: October 7, 2014

Valentina Cruz no longer exists.
One moment, she was wrapped in Emilio’s arms, melting into his kiss. The next, she was witnessing the unthinkable: a murder in cold blood, ordered by her father and carried out by her boyfriend. When Emilio pulled the trigger, Valentina disappeared. She made a split-second decision to shed her identity and flee her life of privilege, leaving the glittering parties and sultry nightlife of Miami far behind.
She doesn't know how to explain to herself what she saw. All she knows now is that nothing she believed about her family, her heart, or Emilio’s love, was real.
She can change her name and deny her past, but Valentina can’t run from the truth. The lines between right and wrong, and trust and betrayal, will be blurred beyond recognition as she untangles the deceptions of the two men she once loved and races to find her own truth.
I know, the rating isn't great, but in this case I am going to judge a book by its cover because it is beautiful. The description also sounds like something I would love, so hopefully I won't be as disappointed as some readers.

Author: Heather Demetrios
Release Date: February 3, 2015

If seventeen-year-old Skyler Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage-months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom—that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she’s ever worked for is on the line.
Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings them together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper.
Gritty, romantic, and ultimately hopeful, I'll MEET YOU THERE explores the complicated lives of an unforgettable cast of characters. This is the story of teens outside the picket fence. It doesn't soften the edges of adolescence or the individual consequences of war; it’s life on the fringes—maddening, weirdly endearing…and completely screwed up.
I had seen this on someone else’s WoW a couple a weeks back and it just stuck with me. Just from the summary, I immediately identify with Skyler and I feel like her story can be a really deep one. I’m all for the gritty romance this book is promising.

Tell us what you're waiting for this week!

Until next week!

  2. Even with the low ratings, I'm actually really curious about Kiss Kill Vanish as well. I will probably borrow it from a library when it becomes available.
As for I'll Meet You There, I need that book in my life right away. It sounds too good and I loved Heather's Something Real.
    Great picks! :)

AHH A Doctor Who image! YAY!

Kiss Kill Vanish does have a beautiful cover. I'll be interested to see what you think of it. I'm on the fence about whether or not I want to read it at the time, though it DOES sound interesting.

I'll Meet You There sounds good and really emotional.

I hope you both enjoy these books!

  5. Hmmm the first one sounds like an adult novel and I try to avoid those because they're gross! :D The second one sounds interesting and I've added that on my waiting-for-the-release list :)
