Book Beginnings & The Friday 56 #10

"Book Beginnings" on Friday is hosted by Rose City Reader, the meme encourages to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book.

"The Friday 56" is also a weekly event, hosted by Freda's Voice, where you find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you from page 56 or 56% in your book/eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)

The weekend is among us and I couldn't be happier. With school having started this week for us things have been crazier than expected, so I'm looking for the two days ahead. Any plans for you?

Asylum is a thrilling and creepy photo-novel perfect for fans of the New York Times bestseller Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, New Hampshire College Prep is more than a summer program—it's a lifeline. An outcast at his high school, Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane.
As Dan and his new friends, Abby and Jordan, explore the hidden recesses of their creepy summer home, they soon discover it's no coincidence that the three of them ended up here. Because the asylum holds the key to a terrifying past. And there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.
Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity.
“They built it out of stone - dark gray stone, pried loose from the unforgiving mountains. It was a house for those who could not take care of themselves, for those who heard voices, who had strange thoughts and did strange things. the house was meant to keep them in. Once they came, they never left.”

I am freaking freaked out. I read this in the darkness of my room and had to close it. I refuse to read the book at night. Though, I hope it continues to be as creepy as I hope.

“What the…” Dan and Abby tried to see what was going on, but the crowd was just too dense to move more than a few feet. Another police officer rushed in through the front door. Dan could see the flashing blue-and-red lights of the police cars parked outside. It looked like there were four or five of them.
“Move out of the way!” the officer thundered. “This is a crime scene! Move outside, Now!”

Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she's determined to make them come true—for her parents' sake as well as her own. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, she barely has time to think, let alone date. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can't risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, a social life is out of the question. The last thing he wants is for four noisy students to move into the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia's and Ty's paths cross, and soon they can't stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can't know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.
"The first time I saw Ty, I fell down the stairs and tore my pants."

Laughing. What a mortifying way to meet someone, especially your hot-as-hell neighbor!

"His gaze blazed down my body as he shucked his running shorts. "I planned on taking my time, you know that? I had it all planned out. Multi-orgasms for you, massive self-control for me." "Hows that working out for you?" "It's not. You said that sweet stuff about my name, and now you're all gorgeous thighs, breasts and sex hair. Which I gave you. My ideals have seriously outpaced my will-power.""

Until Next Time,

  7. One sexy novel and one spooky one. I really like that first one. How shocking to find out your dorm use to be an insane asylum. I would like both of these novels. Never heard of a Photo-Novel.
