Book Review: Make it Count by Megan Erickson (@meganerickson_)

Make it Count (Bowler University #1) by Megan Erickson
Publication Date: June 3rd, 2014
Published: William Morrow Impulse/HarperCollins

My Rating:

Kat Caruso wishes her brain had a return policy, or at least a complaint hot-line. The defective organ is constantly distracted, terrible at statistics, and absolutely flooded with inappropriate thoughts about her boyfriend’s gorgeous best friend, Alec…who just so happens to be her brand new math tutor. Who knew nerd was so hot?
Kat usually goes through tutors like she does boyfriends—both always seem to bail when they realize how hopeless she is. It’s safer for her heart to keep everyone at arm’s reach. But Alec is always stepping just a little too close.
Alec Stone should not be fantasizing about Kat. She’s adorable, unbelievably witty, and completely off limits. He’d never stab his best friend in the back…
But when secrets are revealed, the lines of loyalty are blurred. To make it count, Alec must learn messy human emotions can’t be solved like a trigonometry function. And Kat has to trust Alec may be the first guy to want her for who she is, and not in spite of it.

The moment I saw this on my goodreads feed, I knew I had to have and read it. I wasn't disappointed at all in this cute, funny and sweet book. It is Megan's NA debut and you could barely tell. When it came to the plot and characterization of  these college students, it didn't feel forced or overly drowned in drama for the sake of drama.

Kat, a girl who has always been the pretty one and relied heavily on that because she felt like she wasn't smart enough and struggled with school, felt extremely real. There are so many cases of kids out there who struggle their whole academic career and fall through the cracks. She came across as funny and sweet and an all around good person. I would totally hang out with her if she was real.

Alec...

I mean seriously, he was a nerdy hot Christmas present. Black rimmed glass? Nice toned body? Sensitive and smart? YES! If you ignore the fact that he is lusting and basically coveting his best friend since forever's girlfriend, he's the perfect package! He's smart, caring, hot as hell with just a dose of reasonable angst.

There was a little misunderstandings between Alec and Kat that I felt was a little forced but overall, their story progressed sweetly.

This being a new adult novel, of course there were some steamy scenes. The one that stands out the most for me was when Kat and boyfriend, Max, go out with their friends to a club. Max suggests that Alec take Kat out to dance. Both already have this strong attraction to each other. So when they dance, it is basically the hottest booty grind that I have read in a long time. The chemistry between the two of them were so hot it would have burned the pages of my book if I wasn't reading on my kindle.

Go read this if you're looking for something to cleanse your book palate and then water it at the same time.

Until Next Time!
