Book Review: If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones (@lisareneejones)

If I Were You (Inside Out #1) by Lisa Renee Jones
Publication Date: March 12, 2013
Published: Galley/Simon & Schuster
Source: Netgalley

My Rating:
The steamy first installment in the Inside Out erotic romance trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones, in the bestselling tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey.

When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.

Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books for providing me with an ARC of If I Were You.

What a cliffhanger! While I knew this was the first in a series, I never expected to get invested enough to want the next book so soon.

Going into If I Were You I expected more of a mystery. It seemed to me that the plot got lost in the romance, and once it did resurface it felt like a bit of an afterthought. I'm very much hoping to find out what happened to Rebecca soon.

Sara... Oh, Sara.

For a teacher she wasn't too bright. I found myself frustrated with her more than I found myself in agreement with her. She thought too much and her range of emotion was all over the place. There wasn't much growth this book, but I still have three more to decide how I ultimately feel about her.

Personally, I'm more drawn to Mark than Chris. Chris' mood swings gave me whiplash and the back and forth between him and Sara started to bore. Their dialogue frustrated me, as I have never, in a true life conversation, referred to someone by name (or pet name) in nearly every sentence!

That isn't to say I didn't like If I Were You. Those things aside, this book was sexy, light, and left me wanting more!

Until Next Time!
