Book Beginnings & The Friday 56 #11

"Book Beginnings" on Friday is hosted by Rose City Reader, the meme encourages to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book.

"The Friday 56" is also a weekly event, hosted by Freda's Voice, where you find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you from page 56 or 56% in your book/eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.)

TGIF! I don't know about you all, but I'm glad the weekend is here. Two days to sleep in? Yes and please. What's on your weekend agenda? Any good reads?

Sam McKenna’s never turned down a dare. And she's not going to start with the last one her brother gave her before he died.
So Sam joins the first-ever class of girls at the prestigious Denmark Military Academy. She’s expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud-crawling. As a military brat, she can handle an obstacle course just as well as the boys. She's even expecting the hostility she gets from some of the cadets who don’t think girls belong there. What she’s not expecting is her fiery attraction to her drill sergeant. But dating is strictly forbidden and Sam won't risk her future, or the dare, on something so petty...no matter how much she wants him.
As Sam struggles to prove herself, she discovers that some of the boys don’t just want her gone—they will stop at nothing to drive her out. When their petty threats turn to brutal hazing, bleeding into every corner of her life, she realizes they are not acting alone. A decades-old secret society is alive and active… and determined to force her out.
At any cost.
Now time's running short. Sam must decide who she can trust...and choosing the wrong person could have deadly consequences.
“I’m physically incapable of saying no to a dare - I’ve got the scars to prove it. And that fatal flaw, Bad Habit #1, is the reason I’m sitting in the car with my parents right now, listening to some small town radio DJ talk smack about me.”

This has me very excited because who doesn't love a good dare?

“That’s right! Quit! No one wants you here!” A voice yells from the riverbank. They can’t hear us over the roar, but it must be obvious what’s happening. Boy or girl, quitters all look the same. “Get the hell out of our school. You sluts aren’t even worth screwing!”

Violet Ryan loves the delicious food she gets to eat on the reality shows she produces for The Food Channel. What she hates is her expanding waistline. Determined to drop the pounds, Violet hatches a plan to kick start a fitness regimen. But when her determination isn’t enough to get her through even one intense group class without breaking down into tears, she knows she needs a new approach and possibly a new trainer—one with a lighter touch.
Grant Gibson has always managed to mix business with pleasure, but now this trainer by day, and Dominant by night, is bored. Bored and lonely. Even though he owns one of L.A.’s hottest private gyms, his personal life is sorely lacking. After his last submissive tried to kidnap his dog and the contents of his bank account, he’s in no hurry to take a new lover under his wing. Not until the voluptuous Violet falls into his lap.

She may be wary of his unorthodox approach of using sexual gratification as a reward, but even before her initial weigh-in Violet can’t seem to stay away from the sexy fitness god. She may have to let Grant show her there’s more than one way to get in shape…
**This story contains light acts of bondage and a feisty submissive who gives her Dominant a run for his money.**
"Day 1: Violet nearly wheezed as she dropped her weights to the ground."

I feel you, Violet! Gym time = the struggle.

""You are Satan. Actually Satan." He said nothing, probably thinking the motion of his arm was response enough. Violet spun around and stormed off to the sauna, grabbing a fluffy white towel off a decorative stand before she slammed the door behind her. She climbed up on the warm wood and waited, thinking of how bad she was going to tell Grant off when he came through the door."

What's your favorite part of the book you're reading - beginning, middle, or end?

Until next time,

  4. Wow! Nikki's pick and her Friday 56 convinced me that this book is sure to be full of drama ha ha! I'm not sure if I would read something like this as my favorite type of drama leans towards destruction and extinction :P

    Here's mine! Sparrow's BB & Friday 56

  5. The beginning of the first made me curious. Why is the DJ talking smack? I want to know! Fit sounds intriguing as well. Enjoy your reads!

  6. I'm thinking the 'smack' is her joing the academy? Sounds like this could be very disturbing and maybe even scary. A mob mentality can lead people to do terrible things.
Fit sounds interesting too. I like that about ' you are satan' LOL
